Courses

Courses are class sessions that occur over multiple weeks, giving you an opportunity to establish a regular practice and learn about a topic in-depth. We offer a variety of course topics, including yoga, tai chi, meditation, herbal medicine, and more.

Please understand that instructors spend a great deal of time preparing for courses and gathering supplies. Courses will not run if minimum registrations are not met by the deadlines. Credits cannot be refunded if the participant cancels their registration after the deadline has passed.

Intro to Tai Chi & Qigong

This 4-week course is a great way to get started with a regular Tai Chi and Qigong practice!

TAI CHI (Taijiquan)
​Practiced by millions of people worldwide, Tai Chi is a system of training with martial origins which has steadily gained popularity in the West. Tai Chi is an excellent mind/body exercise, integrating internal kung fu, meditative awareness, Taoist philosophy and physics of efficient movement. Consisting of a series of movements and steps, it is practiced slowly, with attention to relaxation and calm spirit.

​QIGONG (Chi Kung)
​Literally, the study and practice of energy development, Qigong claims similar benefits as Tai Chi. The movements are somewhat less complicated than Tai Chi, and some of the training takes place while the participants are standing still (sometimes known as Standing Meditation). Many students enjoy practicing Qigong as a supplement to their Tai Chi training.

Wednesdays, June 7 - 28, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

 

​COST: $60 (16 credits)
(Includes 1 Saturday make-up class if you miss a Wednesday class.)

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION POLICY: Registration minimum must be met 5 days prior to the first class, or the course will be canceled. Once registered, participant may cancel registration until the registration deadline. If participant cancels registration after the deadline, all 16 credits will be used toward the course.

Intro to Meditation Course

This 4-week course is a great way to test the waters of meditation and settle into stillness. Each class will include discussion and guidance, meditation time, and journaling. Please bring a journal to class. 

Week 1: Using your breath to focus on calm and awareness of self we will explore why meditation is beneficial for the body and mind.


Week 2: Exploring breath techniques to maintain focus and allow for a deeper meditation.

 

Week 3: Exploring movement and breath to enter meditation.


Week 4: Working with the practice of compassion (metta) meditation to bring a deeper sense of calm for yourself and others. 

This course will be facilitated by Karen Sonnenwald.
 

WHEN: Wednesdays, 7-8 p.m., August 9 - 30

COST: $48 (12 credits)

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION POLICY: Registration minimum must be met 5 days prior to the first class, or the course will be canceled. Once registered, participant may cancel registration until the registration deadline. If participant cancels registration after the deadline, all 12 credits will be used toward the course.
